Learn About Pro Se Assistant's CTA Ad Campaign
We are excited to announce a major milestone in the growth of Pro Se Assistant:
We are now officially fiscally sponsored by Project VIDA, a long-standing Chicago nonprofit committed to improving health, housing, and community well-being across the city.
This partnership allows us to accept tax-deductible donations, apply for major grants, and expand our capacity to support renters facing discrimination — all while ensuring every dollar is managed with transparency and nonprofit oversight.
Project VIDA’s Executive Director, Jerome Montgomery Jr., and their team have been incredibly supportive of our mission, and we are honored to work alongside an organization that shares our commitment to empowering underserved communities.
What Fiscal Sponsorship Means for You?
Through our partnership with Project VIDA:
All donations to support Pro Se Assistant go through Project VIDA, ensuring full nonprofit compliance.
Donors receive an official tax receipt from Project VIDA.
Grant funding can now flow into Pro Se Assistant programs faster and more securely.
Our work remains fully community-focused and mission-driven.
To donate, individuals and organizations can make contributions payable to Project VIDA, with the note: “Pro Se Assistant.”
This ensures the funds are restricted exclusively for our housing justice work.
Chicago is currently facing a wave of documented housing discrimination — including voucher refusals, credit-score gatekeeping, and unlawful screening practices.
Many renters want to fight back but cannot afford an attorney or do not know where to begin.
This partnership gives Pro Se Assistant the infrastructure we need to:
launch more workshops
build more resources
expand our Housing Justice Alerts
strengthen our community presence
and eventually establish our full nonprofit status
This is a turning point for our mission — and for the renters we serve.
We want our community to stay informed in a way that works best for them.
Here’s how our updates will be organized going forward:
Delivered once a month, our newsletter will include:
Big updates
Case trends and community reports
Major housing discrimination stories
Workshop announcements
Partnerships and funding news
Program impact metrics
New tools and resources
Think of the newsletter as the “big picture” of our work every month.
The blog is where we provide more frequent, on-the-ground updates, including:
breaking housing discrimination stories
day-to-day community alerts
urgent rental scams or bad-actor warnings
changes in screening practices
updates from renters and advocates
progress on current discrimination actions
new templates, guides, and tools
insights from workshops and community events
The blog is designed to keep renters informed in real time, instead of waiting for the next newsletter.
